Willis –
With many early settlers moving from Danville – north of Willis and west of New Waverly – south to found a new community which is now known as Willis, Texas, a major factor in the development was the Houston and Great Northern Railroad, now the Missouri Pacific Railroad. From the 1870’s to present day, the main occupations were farming, shipping, and the manufacture of lumber and agricultural products. These remain vital to the economy along with retail, service, and manufacturing industries.
Currently, Willis has an army of restaurants ranging from a fast-food experience to various full-meal eateries. There are two large grocery stores, along with retail stores and health care facilities.
